15/1/2009
It will take place on Sunday, 18th January at the Tara Towers Hotel, Dublin, from 11am—5pm. Admission €2.00
The first Bookfair of 2009 takes place as above in the usual venue. There will be thirty dealers exhibiting, including one from the Southeast who is exhibiting for the first time. Dealers have some exceptional items for sale this time and even if they are not to your personal taste it is an opportunity to see books that may not appear outside the National Library or our other institutional libraries. James Howell Rare Books have the following exceedingly rare Beckett item for sale: Beckett, Samuel " All Strange Away" published in 1976 by Gotham Book Mart, a proof copy, signed. This book was published in an edition of 200 copies and there could not have been more than a handful of proof copies circulated. Gotham Book Mart went out of business last year. The great Beckett collector Alan Clodd whose collection is now thankfully with the National Library of Ireland did not have the proof copy of this book in his collection. The book is made up of its original loose leaves together with the proof dustwrapper and signed colophon page. The leaves are housed in a slipcase which in turn is housed in a black custom made A 4 solander case by Ursus Rare Books with it's original leather label still intact. " All Strange Away " is illustrated by Edward Gorey whose work for this book is hauntingly beautiful. Dave Downes of Dublin Bookbrowsers has for sale:- Poetry book signed by Thomas MacDonagh, signatory of the Easter Proclamation; William Harkin’s Scenery of North-West Donegal(1893) and a signed P G Wodehouse item. Helen Litton Books is selling a collection of approx 60 cricket and rugby books which include items as follows:-Items by Cardus, Arlott, Costantine, Alan Ross and many others. Several Wisdens as well as reports of Test Matches from 1930’S. A West of Ireland dealer has a very rare The Year’s of the Spring, illustrated by Harry Clarke and signed by him. This was produced in a limited edition of 250 copies in 1920. There will, of course, be many thousands of other books, Literature, History, Antiquarian, Illustrated and Postal items exhibited and for sale. Parking is available to patrons of the Bookfair and the nearest DART stop is Booterstown. Buses Nos. 4, 7 and 45 serve the hotel from the city centre and the venue is disability friendly. Children welcome with an adult. Bar and restaurant facilities in the Hotel.
